Overview


This guide is to serve as a reference for installation of V-Ray 2.0 for SketchUp. Please refer to the “Glossary” section for specific terms used in this document.

You can download the latest official version of V-Ray 2.0 from http://www.chaosgroup.com with the account supplied to you by Chaos Group or your reseller.

A complete installation of V-Ray 2.0 for SketchUpconsists of:

  • V-Ray

  • V-Ray RT

  • V-Ray Standalone

  • V-Ray license server

  • V-Ray tools

  • V-Ray SDK

  • Documentation

  • WIBU-KEY drivers

  • Dongle (hardware lock)

All components are included in the installation pack

Windows


To install V-Ray make sure your Windows account has administrative privileges and double-click the installation file.

1. First you will see the Welcome screen. Click Next to continue

2. You will be presented with the license agreement. Please take a moment to review it, Click "I accept the license agreement" and click Next to continue

3. Next you can specify which V-Ray components you want to have installed. The available options are:

    • WIBU Key Runtime - these are the WIBU-KEY drivers necessary for our licensing sytem
    • Microsoft C++ Redistributable - these are C++ dependencies that are necessary to run V-Ray for SketchUp
    • V-Ray for SketchUp - this is the actual plug-in for SketchUp
    • The command line render spawner tool - this is the V-Ray Standalone application that can be used to render .vrscene files.
    • The distributed rendering spawner - this is the spawner used for Distributed Rendering
    • Utilities for dongle licensing - these are the V-Ray license server and the utilities used for the licensing of V-Ray
    • V-Ray Tools -  these are some additional V-Ray tools like Irradiance Map Viewer etc.

Select the components you want to have installed and click Next

4. Next you can specify the root installation folder. The installer should detect it automatically. Please make sure that the destination is correct and click Next

5. Once the installation is set-up you will see the Ready to Install screen. Click next to continue and wait for the installation to complete

6. If you chose to install WIBU Key Runtime you will see the Welcome Screen for the installation of the WIBY-KEY drivers. Click Next to continue

Note

The 32-bit installation of V-Ray includes only the 32-bit WIBU-KEY drivers. If you are installing the 32-bit  version of V-Ray on a 64-bit operating system, you must download and install the dongle drivers separately from the WIBU-KEY website at http://wibu.com/download_user.php Scroll down to the WibuKey Runtime section and find the appropriate drivers.

7. Make sure that the dongle is NOT plugged-in

8. Follow the instructions of the installer. You do not need to install the WIBU-KEY network server and monitor

9. Click Finish to complete the installation

Mac OS X


To install V-Ray make sure the dongle is NOT plugged in. Double click on the installation package to mount the .dmg file and then double click on the .app file to run the installation. You may be asked to provide administrative privileges - do that so that the installation can commence.

2. You will be presented with the license agreement. Please take a moment to review it, Click "I accept the license agreement" and click Next to continue

3. Next you can specify which V-Ray components you want to have installed. The available options are:

    • WIBU Key Runtime - these are the WIBU-KEY drivers necessary for our licensing sytem
    • Microsoft C++ Redistributable - these are C++ dependencies that are necessary to run V-Ray for SketchUp
    • V-Ray for SketchUp - this is the actual plug-in for SketchUp
    • The command line render spawner tool - this is the V-Ray Standalone application that can be used to render .vrscene files.

  • Select the components you want to have installed and click Next

4. Next you can specify the root installation folder. The installer should detect it automatically. Please make sure that the destination is correct and click Next

5. Once the installation is set-up you will see the Ready to Install screen. Click next to continue and wait for the installation to complete.

6. Click Finish to complete the installation

7. The V-Ray License Server installation window will appear next. You will be presented with the V-Ray licensing agreement. Please take a moment to review the agreement. Click the “I agree” button to proceed:

8. Next you will see the default installation settings. To manually set-up the installation click Customize

7. Here you can specify the installation folder for V-Ray License Server. You are also given the option to Register the V-Ray license service – check this option if you want to register the V-Ray license server as a service and automatically start upon boot. In this case V-Ray license server will run in the background as a service and there will be no need to run it manually. You should also add a firewall exception so that the license server can run uninterrupted.

8. Click Install Now and wait for the installation to complete. Then click Finish.

9. Along with the last window of the V-Ray for SketchUp 2.0 installer you will see a second window asking to install the WibuKey software and drivers.

The 32-bit installation of V-Ray includes only the 32-bit WIBU-KEY drivers. 10. Double-click on the WkInstall.mpkg icon to install the WIBU-KEY Drivers for Mac OS X.

11. In the next step click Continue


12. Take a moment to read the Read Me section and click Continue when ready

13. Next you will see the screen below. Click on Change Install Location button if you want the drivers to be installed at a specific location. Otherwise click Install to install the drivers at their default location.

14. You will be asked for your password. Enter it and click Install Software

15. The installer will proceed with the driver installation


16. Once the installation is complete you will see the screen below. Click Close
