V-Ray 3.0 adds a number of rendering optimization features.  HoweverHowever, for compatibility reasons, some features and workflows have been adjusted and are discussed in detail below.

Please note that V-Ray for Rhino versions older than 2.0 are no longer supported. Materials and other V-Ray data will not be read. If you need to migrate an outdated scene, please request a complimentary temporary v2.0 license by sending an email at . This will allow you to perform a 2-step migration - first one to v2.0 and a second one from v2.0 to v3.6.

Opening a Scene

When a scene saved with V-Ray 2 is loaded in Rhino (using V-Ray 3), an upgrade script will go through all the scene assets and features to account for incompatibilities.  All lights, materials, and special objects will be upgraded from groups to a new component definition system.  This upgrade can take some time, but only happens the first time the scene is opened in Rhino with V-Ray 3.  When the scene is saved, the updates are saved with it.
